On 16 December 2020, the Nigerian Climate Parliament met for the first time. On this occasion, the new network, comprised by members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, established the aims and objectives for the group. The Chair of this multi-partisan, gender-diverse network of legislators noted that political will is essential to mitigate climate change. The parliamentarians present at the meeting emphasised the need for Nigeria to move towards a carbon neutral economy. As a group, they will push within the Nigerian parliament for policies that promote a) a transition from fossil fuels to sustainable renewable energy; b) deployment electric vehicles; and c) investment into clean energy mini-grids for villages and communities throughout Nigeria.
