Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire | Earlier this month (July 19, 2017), Ivorian parliamentarians from the West Africa Climate Parliament Network met with Mr Thierry Tanoh, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy Development. The meeting was a result of commitments made during Climate Parliament’s regional hearing in Abidjan in April 2017.

The purpose of the meeting was first of all to congratulate the minister on his appointment as head of this department, and for the change of name from "Ministry of Oil and Energy" to "Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy Development." The inclusion of renewable energy in the government's priorities was also applauded. Additionally, the meeting was an opportunity to inquire further about the government's policy developments for the promotion of renewable energy in the country.

Mr Thierry Tanoh informed the MPs that his staff are in the process of elaborating the ministry's strategy for renewable energy. At the request of the MPs, he agreed to do a presentation of this strategy to the parliamentarians when it is ready.
