Planning Meeting in Scottish Parliament

On Wednesday 23rd June, the Climate Parliament convened a group of members of the Scottish Parliament to discuss how Scotland could play a leading role in creating a European supergrid, including a North Sea offshore grid for wind energy.

The meeting was attended by the following members of the Scottish Parliament: Wendy Alexander (former Labour leader), Patrick Harvie (Green – Chair of Climate Change Committee) and Iain Smith (Liberal Democrat – Chair of Energy Committee). The parliamentary assistants of Ian Gibson and Lewis Macdonald also attended.

Nicholas Dunlop, Secretary-General of the Climate Parliament, made a presentation outlining ideas for roles Scotland could play in the development of a European renewable energy network, and summarised the results of the Roadmap 2050 study by the European Climate Foundation.

The MSPs attending decided to explore the possibility of holding a joint meeting after the summer recess which might be co-sponsored by the Committees on Climate Change, Energy and European affairs, to consider ways that Scotland could work with other European regions rich in renewable energy to promote a European clean energy supergrid.

John Sturrock, Chief Executive of Core Solutions Group Ltd, and James Corre, Programme Officer of the Climate Parliament also attended the meeting.
